Ethereum Reclaims $2,700 as BitMine Nears 6M ETH

Ethereum has climbed back above $2,700, extending its recovery from last week's market weakness as attention turns to institutional ETH accumulation and the network's upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade.

ETH was trading around $2,770 on September 22, according to FXStreet, after recovering from below $2,400. The rebound has brought Ethereum close to resistance around $2,786.

At the same time, BitMine Immersion Technologies has expanded its Ethereum treasury to nearly 6 million ETH, while Ethereum developers prepare for the next major Glamsterdam testing milestone.

ETH Recovers Above $2,700

Ethereum's move above $2,700 marks a strong recovery from last week's sell-off.

ETH fell below $2,400 before rebounding alongside the broader crypto market. At around $2,770 on September 22, Ethereum was approaching the $2,786 resistance area highlighted by FXStreet.

Holding above $2,700 could therefore become an important short-term level as traders watch whether the recovery can continue.

The rebound is occurring against a mixed backdrop for institutional demand, particularly through U.S. spot Ether ETFs.

BitMine's Ethereum Holdings Reach 5.98M ETH

One of the biggest institutional developments surrounding Ethereum is the continued accumulation by BitMine Immersion Technologies.

The company announced on September 21 that its holdings had reached 5,983,940 ETH, representing approximately 4.9% of Ethereum's reported 122.1 million ETH supply.

BitMine purchased another 27,562 ETH during the latest reporting period.

The company's combined cryptocurrency holdings, cash, marketable securities and other investments were valued at approximately $17.1 billion.

BitMine has previously stated a goal of acquiring the equivalent of 5% of Ethereum's total supply. Its latest holdings put the company close to that target, although reaching it remains a corporate objective rather than a guaranteed outcome.

More Than 5 Million ETH Is Staked

BitMine is also deploying a significant portion of its Ethereum treasury into staking.

The company reported 5,067,309 ETH staked as of September 20, representing approximately 85% of its total ETH holdings.

BitMine said its staking operations produced an annualized yield of approximately 2.62% based on the latest seven-day period.

At that rate, the company projected approximately $357 million in annualized staking revenue. Actual staking returns can change depending on Ethereum network conditions, validator participation and other factors.

The size of the position makes BitMine notable not only as an ETH holder but also as a participant in Ethereum's staking ecosystem.

Glamsterdam Approaches October Sepolia Test

Ethereum's protocol roadmap is also moving forward.

The network's next major upgrade, Glamsterdam, is currently undergoing devnet testing.

Ethereum's official roadmap lists October 6, 2026 for the Glamsterdam Sepolia testnet fork.

The distinction is important: October 6 is not a confirmed Glamsterdam mainnet launch date.

Ethereum currently targets Q4 2026 for the mainnet upgrade, but an exact deployment date has not been confirmed.

Glamsterdam is designed to improve Ethereum's scalability, block production and transaction processing while making the network's growing database requirements more sustainable.

Among its major areas of development are changes intended to support greater transaction parallelization and more efficient handling of Ethereum's state.

For users and applications, these improvements are intended to help Ethereum process more activity efficiently as demand on the network grows.

Developers Are Already Planning Hegotá

Ethereum developers are also looking beyond Glamsterdam.

The Ethereum Foundation said in its September protocol update that the network had entered the Hegotá scoping season, during which developers are evaluating potential changes for Ethereum's next upgrade cycle.

The Foundation said 62 Ethereum Improvement Proposals had been submitted for consideration.

Development priorities include areas such as scalability, privacy, state management, faster finality, zkEVM development and longer-term post-quantum security.

Ethereum's roadmap currently places Hegotá in 2027, although its final scope and deployment schedule remain subject to the development process.

This shows that Ethereum's current upgrade cycle extends beyond immediate scaling improvements, with developers simultaneously working on longer-term network security and infrastructure.

Ether ETF Flows Remain Mixed

U.S. spot Ether ETF activity has been uneven during Ethereum's latest price recovery.

Farside Investors data shows $121.1 million in net inflows on September 14, followed by net outflows of $142 million on September 15, $224.1 million on September 16 and $39.3 million on September 17.

Flows turned positive again on September 18, with approximately $29.4 million in net inflows.

The figures point to mixed ETF demand rather than a consistent inflow or outflow trend.

Corporate treasury accumulation represents another source of institutional ETH exposure. BitMine's nearly 6 million ETH position is particularly notable because much of that Ethereum is also being staked.

What to Watch Next for Ethereum

Several developments could shape Ethereum's market and network activity heading into the final quarter of 2026.

ETH price: Ethereum is attempting to maintain its recovery above $2,700, with approximately $2,786 emerging as an important near-term resistance area.

BitMine: Its holdings have reached 5.98 million ETH, bringing the company close to its stated 5% supply target.

Staking: More than 5.06 million ETH from BitMine's treasury is already staked.

Glamsterdam: The October 6 Sepolia fork is the next major scheduled testing milestone. Mainnet remains targeted for Q4 2026 without a confirmed date.

ETF flows: U.S. spot Ether ETF flows remain an important indicator of institutional demand.

Hegotá: Developers are already evaluating proposals for Ethereum's next upgrade cycle beyond Glamsterdam.

Conclusion

Ethereum has returned above $2,700 after falling below $2,400 last week, bringing ETH back toward an important short-term resistance area.

At the same time, BitMine has expanded its Ethereum treasury to 5,983,940 ETH, equivalent to roughly 4.9% of Ethereum's reported supply, while more than 5.06 million ETH from its holdings is already staked.

Ethereum's network roadmap is also approaching an important milestone. The Glamsterdam Sepolia fork is scheduled for October 6, while its mainnet deployment remains targeted for Q4 2026 without a confirmed date.

With ETH recovering, corporate accumulation approaching a major milestone and Glamsterdam testing moving forward, Ethereum enters the final quarter of 2026 with several significant market and protocol developments to watch.
