Swell Recovers Tokens Left Behind After Chain Shutdown
Swell has established Ethereum-based claim routes for holders of SWELL, swETH and rswETH that remained on Swellchain after the network shut down. The recovery process returned the stranded token balances to a position where eligible users can claim them on Ethereum.
The project reported recovering 72,773,835.73 SWELL, 100.994705 swETH and 55.282269 rswETH. The tokens had remained on Swellchain following its closure on June 23, 2026.
The claim process covers users who held these assets on the discontinued network. Swell has provided separate claim pages for each token: SWELL, swETH and rswETH.
How the BNB Chain Recovery Route Worked
The recovery involved a temporary bridge route through BNB Chain. When users originally bridged their tokens to Swellchain using LayerZero's Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard, the corresponding assets were locked in contracts on Ethereum while equivalent tokens were issued on Swellchain.
After the network closed, the Ethereum-locked tokens could not be released through the normal Swellchain route. Swell therefore used temporary token contracts on BNB Chain to facilitate their recovery.
The process involved removing Swellchain as a trusted source on the Ethereum bridge contracts, deploying temporary SWELL, swETH and rswETH contracts on BNB Chain, and connecting those contracts to the Ethereum bridge. Temporary tokens were then minted to Swell's multisignature wallet and bridged back to Ethereum, releasing the corresponding locked assets.
Temporary Tokens Were Disconnected After Recovery
The temporary BNB Chain tokens were created only to complete the recovery operation. Swell stated that they had no value and were not intended for continued use.
After the assets were released to the project's multisignature wallet, Swell disconnected BNB Chain from the Ethereum bridge contracts. The recovered tokens could then be prepared for distribution through Ethereum claim contracts.
Eligible holders should use the claim page corresponding to the asset they previously held on Swellchain and connect the wallet associated with their original holdings to check their claimable balance.
What Holders Should Know
The recovery addresses tokens left on Swellchain after its shutdown; it does not mean that the Swell project itself has shut down. The distinction matters because the discontinued network and the project's other activities are separate.
Holders should use the project's official claim pages and verify the token and wallet details before signing transactions. The recovered amounts represent the total reported by Swell, not an indication that every holder can claim the entire amount.
The operation provides a route for eligible users to access the recovered SWELL, swETH and rswETH balances on Ethereum after the closure of Swellchain.
